Hypnotherapy for Compulsions
What are compulsions?
A compulsion is a strong, repeating urge to do or think something. A compulsion becomes a problem when the thought or behaviour becomes damaging or harmful to your wellbeing. This can include compulsive gambling, shopping or other behaviours. It also can include compulsive thinking about a particular topic, such as your health or another person. A person with a compulsion may also think of themselves as addicted to the object of their compulsion.
How can you help with compulsions?
Most compulsions are emotional in nature - a person feels emotionally distressed or upset, and the compulsive behaviour - gambling, shopping, checking the locks - relieves that distress temporarily. Unfortunately, it does not address that underlying patterns of thought and belief that created the distress in the first place. Hypnotherapy can help by altering your thoughts and perceptions so that compulsive feelings no longer arise.
